The cars may be faster than ever, but behind every great motorsport event is a team of people committed to making the sport safer, fairer and stronger for everyone involved.

MotorSport New Zealand is looking for a respected technical leader to help drive the future of technical innovation, safety and standards across the sport.

This is a rare opportunity to influence the direction of motorsport in New Zealand, working alongside competitors, teams, technical volunteers, officials, clubs, industry suppliers and the FIA to advance technical excellence and continuously improve safety outcomes.

More than maintaining regulations, you'll help shape them. More than responding to issues, you'll anticipate them. More than supporting the sport, you'll help lead it forward.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll be MotorSport New Zealand's leading technical authority and one of the most influential technical voices in the sport.

You'll lead the development of technical regulations, champion safety improvements, support and grow our nationwide network of technical volunteers, and help ensure New Zealand continues to align with global motorsport best practice.

This is a role where your expertise, judgement and relationships will genuinely make a difference, both on and off the track.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the ongoing evolution of technical regulations and safety standards.
  • Working closely with the FIA and international motorsport bodies to ensure New Zealand remains at the forefront of technical best practice.
  • Providing trusted technical advice and guidance across the motorsport community.
  • Identifying future risks, trends and opportunities before they become issues.
  • Recruiting, mentoring and supporting a nationwide network of technical volunteers and officials.
  • Driving a culture of continual improvement, innovation and learning.
  • Partnering with competitors, car owners, mechanics, teams and officials to improve understanding and compliance.
  • Helping create safer, fairer and more enjoyable motorsport experiences across New Zealand.

What We're Looking For

You'll be someone who is already respected within motorsport or a related technical environment and is passionate about the future of the sport.
You'll bring:

  • Significant motorsport technical knowledge and practical experience.
  • Experience interpreting, applying or developing technical regulations.
  • The credibility to influence competitors, volunteers, officials and industry stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts in a practical and approachable way.
  • Experience leading, mentoring or supporting technical communities or volunteer networks.
  • A proactive mindset and a passion for continuous improvement.
  • A genuine commitment to safety and protecting those who participate in the sport.

Most importantly, you'll care deeply about motorsport and be motivated by the opportunity to leave a lasting positive impact on the sport's future.

Why Join Us?

Because opportunities like this don't come around often.

You'll have the chance to:

  • Influence the future direction of motorsport in New Zealand
  • Help improve safety outcomes across the sport
  • Work directly with the FIA and international technical leaders
  • Lead and support a passionate nationwide network of technical volunteers
