Design and Development Engineer - New Zealand

Situated in the Mt Lyford region in the South Island of New Zealand, Rodin Cars designs and manufactured high-performance vehicles and associated products. With our own test tracks, in-house R&D facilities and high-tech production machinery; there really are no limits to bringing our vision to life. 

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Design and Development Engineer to join the Engine team, based on-site. 

This diverse role will see you contribute to the research, development and design towards our RC. Ten engine project, carrying out duties from concept and testing through to production development and validation. You will require a critical problem-solving mindset, personal drive for success, and excellent communication skills. 

The successful applicant will take ownership of the design and development cycle, have a fundamental understanding of engines and a high level of interpersonal skills to work well with others. Experience in adhering to deadlines essential. 

In this role, your key responsibilities will be providing technical insight into problem solving and developing effective solutions towards project developments. 

Key responsibilities will be: 

• Understand design briefings and identify key specifications
• Use CAD software to produce models and drawings for manufacture
• Work with other departments to produce prototypes
• Evaluate designs and highlight areas for improvement
• Test parts to satisfy design briefings
• Optimise design fit, form and function
• Produce instructions for assembly and order of operations
   

For this role, key competencies are as follows:

• Fundamental understanding of engines, of four-stroke internal combustion engines (ICE) particularly
• High level competency in CAD programs (NX and SolidWorks preferred)
• Three years experience working on ICE systems
• A Mechanical Engineering degree, similar qualification or equivalent experience
• Experience working in a high-performance environment such as high-level motorsport or aerospace
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including additive manufacturing, machining and composites
• Strong understanding of multiple manufacturing processes
• Highly detailed orientated mindset ensuring outputs are accurate
• Ability to be self-driven and work autonomously under pressure
• Experience in complex decision making and strategic thinking when facing challenging scenarios
